Interesting health articles

Over the last week or so the "Well" blog from the New York Times has had a couple of interesting posts that I thought you would find interesting.

The first post is about some disagreement about the benefits of strengthening the deep abdominal muscles and whether or not it actually benefits the "core" to help prevent back pain. It gives a good example of how the "core" muscles affect the spine and how they can help prevent back pain. The post also gives suggestions on exercises that you can do to help give you a strong and balanced "core".

The second post I found both interesting and fun is about medical myths that we have all believed for so long. I felt better given that doctors believed them too. My kids will be relieved when I tell them that all the gum they swallowed won't actually stay in their stomachs for 7 years. Although they will probably be upset that the "5 second" rule is not a valid excuse to eat food off the floor.

I you hope you find these to be useful and entertaining.
